MA Gun Grab 2024: Senate bill S.2572

So, nobody has anything on this? I thought this was big news, with that big green post from FPC. Just more Internet hype I guess.

Breathe.

These things take time. Here's a write up of the process:

This article came out the day after they were scheduled for conference:

So, yesterday, they had a chance to discuss with the petitioners and respondents about the particular cases. They rarely make decisions immediately. I wouldn't be surprised to see press releases in the next day or two about how it went, but we still won't know their plan.

If they accept either case, it needs to be put on the schedule and the associated attorneys need time to prepare. In other words, don't expect to see them being heard before September.

BEFORE SEPTEMBER???????????

The way it was hyped, I thought they were going to announce results yesterday. Then, after some searching and reading, I thought next week. This is like the slow boat to China.
Wouldn’t it be ironic if they do it on July 20th.

Attempts at restoring rights moves glacially slowly while taking them away seems to happen overnight.

We've been over this before, man.
  • This will take a long time, longer than you want.
  • When something does happen, you won't need to post questions about it. This thread will be flooded.

That was never going to happen. Such conferences are private. They may have voted whether to accept the case or not, but the soonest there would be a public announcement would be this Monday. Since I would bet on there being dissenting opinions no matter how they voted, I suspect the wait will be longer than that.

That’s good news, brother. Gives everyone time to buy what they need.

A constitutional right should never end when you cross some arbitrary line on a map as we all know too well.

All Ive ever really learned of life, in one society or the next, is that you don’t really have any state protected rights. You just do what you want. And you deal the consequences out to those trying to prevent you, as you see fit.

Yo.

It is ALWAYS overhyped. The number of times I have stopped in my tracks because a headline or YouTube video title made it sound like I could mail order machine guns again and it was actually a big nothing burger is staggering.

A lot of the updates thrown our way are blown out of proportion for clicks. Especially on YouTube, you’ll get a 10 minute video that’s like 7 minutes of ads for black rifle coffee and three minutes over analyzing the style of shoes a senator wore. ‘Let me explain to you how this is super important, this style choice is MAJOR and here is why, you won’t believe who said this!’

Not a big surprise but it will embolden the committee of 6 stealing our rights.

Supreme Court rejects challenge to Maryland assault weapons ban

Washington — The Supreme Court on Monday declined to take up a challenge to Maryland's ban on so-called assault weapons, allowing legal proceedings to play out in the dispute.

By not stepping into the legal battle at this time, Maryland's law remains in place for now. The ban's challengers had asked the Supreme Court to take up their case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled on whether the restriction is allowed under the Second Amendment. The full 4th Circuit heard arguments in late March, but has yet to issue a decision. The dispute is likely to end up back before the Supreme Court once the appeals court rules.

Maryland's ban on certain semiautomatic rifles was enacted in the wake of the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Under the law, it is a crime to possess, sell, transfer, or purchase an "assault long gun," which encompasses 45 specific weapons or their analogues. A variety of semiautomatic handguns and rifles are still allowed, according to the Maryland State Police.

aren't their two pending AWB cases though? maybe they like the other one better for precedent?

Am I the only one amazed that this bill hasn't already passed?
I asked my state senator about this. He told me it has slid down on the priority list. Immigration and energy issues are more important to them, thankfully.

We are also benefiting from the fact that Spilka and Mariano dislike each other. Anything requiring negotiation between the branches gets drawn out as a consequence.

Is it possible that it could die here.🤞🤞🤞🤞

I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. There is still plenty of time left for them to screw us. When it happens, it will happen fast.

Smart people are still acquiring everything they are going to want or need for at least the next 5-10 years.

I have no hope in that. That was a tongue in cheek comment
Well, it's certainly not impossible. I just don't give it very good odds.

On the other hand, the anti-2A hysteria in MA seems to have died down a lot.

As others have said, thank the ongoing illegal alien crisis for taking attention away from anti-2A.
